Introduction

Buckholt troop is one of two scout troops within First Shirley Scout Group based in Solihull in the United Kingdom. We meet on Monday evenings at our own Scout Headquarters. The meeting commences at 7.30pm and finishes at 9.30pm.

We try to maintain a 'back to basics' scouting programme where the activities promote teamwork, initiative, leadership skills, problem solving skills, organisational skills and much, much more...

We are a mixed troop consisting of approximately 60 scouts aged between 10 and 14yrs. We have a leader team currently comprising of seven warranted Leaders and three Troop Assistants.

Scouts are encouraged to take part in a wide range of activities as part of their programme. In this programme there are six key areas of personal development. These are Body, Mind, Faith and Beliefs, Relationships, Community and Surroundings.

This programme is all about participation. There is less emphasis on passing tests and a much greater emphasis on encouraging young people to learn from taking part.

Basically, scouting is about being with friends, as part of a team, participating fully in the adventure and opportunities of life.

Our scout group has its own website. Visit the 1st Shirley Scout Group home page to find out more about our group.
